I remember when Melissa inquired with me she mentioned how she was a contributing writer for the wedding section of Brit & Co. and I was so flattered that she had chosen me to photograph her wedding. Out of all the amazing photographers around, I got to work with this adorable couple. Before their wedding day, I had never been out to North Carolina, but it had been at the top of my list. Their Fearrington Barn wedding so quintessentially southern. The day started out in the adorable Fearrington village with Melissa getting ready with all of her bridesmaids. This is always a favorite time of day for me because I get to see the bride and groom surrounded by the people they love in a more casual setting, not to mention, the room Melissa got ready in had the dreamiest light and the best windows. Good light and big windows are the key to beautiful getting ready photos and we are not in short supply of those for this wedding. As Melissa's mom zipped her into her gorgeous Carolina Herrera gown, I couldn't help but repetedly say how it was hands-down one of my most favorite wedding dresses to date.
Melissa & Hartley chose to get married at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown Raleigh. They picked this church for it's stunning interior. I especially loved the flooring. After a sweet ceremony, the newlyweds headed back to Fearrington for their barn wedding of their dreams. Melissa, like myself, opts for more classic, organic decor. The simple decorations were the perfect accent for the barn. From grey linens to greenery and white florals. It was the perfect take on a modern barn wedding.
Being my first time in North Carolina, the guests were thrilled that I got to try out true southern food. Melissa & Hartley had a buffet of all the quintessential southern dishes and they were all amazing! I don't think I've ever been as full at a wedding as I was that night. It was a beautiful day despite the rain, snow, and unexpected cold.
